Abstrakt     We are witnesses of permanent shortage of kidneys for transplantation. We think that possibility to change this situation is in formation of positive public attitude to organ donation and transplantation. A promising way may be an education begun in elementary school. For this purpose we had an inquiry with 114 pupils of four final classes. The group of 57 pupils (Group A) had a lecturing about kidney donation and transplantation, and the other group of 57 pupils responded to inquiry without lecturing (Group B). A positive attitude to accept a cadaver kidney was 93% in Group A vs. 77% in Group B (p < 0,05). The positive attitude toward organ donation after their own death was 84.21 % in Group A vs. 63.16% in Group B (p < 0.05%). The Group A had a positive attitude toward organ donation after the death of a close relative in 87.72% and Group B 57.89% (p < 0.01). A majority of pupils in both groups (Group A 89.47%, Group B 98.54%) considered justified a need for asking family's consent for organ donation. A public education is one way in creation of a positive attitude toward organ donation and transplantation. The most appropriate period is a time of schooling. We will continue this activity in promoting the organ donation and transplantation.
