Abstract		The conditions for the entitlement to the physical impairment benefit and to the outside assistance and attendance allowance of people incapable of performing daily activities independently due to ill health state are stipulated by The Pension and Invalidity Insurance Act. The article deals with the role of the general practitioner and the role of the disability assessment medical advisers on boards of examiners of The Institute of Pension and Disability Insurance of Slovenia in the assessment procedure as regards physical impairment and the need of assistance and attendance. Some of the professional problems encountered by the disability advisers at their work in general and specifically when assessing neurological patients are discussed. Besides sufficient knowledge of the relevant legal regulations, uniform professional criteria are of great importance in disability assessment medical advisers' work.
