Abstract     The purpose of stroke rehabilitation is to reduce the residual disability. Some conditions are often associated with unfavourable outcomes, such as marked concomitant disease, bilateral brain damage, dementia, persistent neglect, bowel and bladder incontinence lasting more than three to four weeks, gross perceptual deficits, flaccid paralysis lasting more than two months, depression. Stroke rehabilitation objective is to help the patient to achieve the highest possible independence in self-care, activities of daily living and mobility, the best possible way to communicate functionally, and to cope with the emotional and personality aspects of the new disability and with returning back home and into the community. To provide optimal care and improve quality of life for stroke survivors some adaptive devices and environment modifications are also recommended.
