Abstract		Dementia affects mostly elder people. Interest in the disease increased with the ageing of population, with achievements in basic sciences and with new promises regarding treatment. Experiences show that not only individuals with the disease are affected but that it significantly influences patients' families as well as broader social surroundings. Neurology has its place in the integral treatment of patients with dementia, be it in the diagnostics' or in making decisions about the treatment and its implementation. In this article special emphasis is put on the particu larities of a neurological examination of patients with dementia and on reasonable use of the gathered data when deciding about further laboratory and clinical tests.
