Abstract     The paper refers to the results of a study embracing 110 adults older than 65, of both sexes, different occupations and from different environments all over Slovenia. Our objective was to determine which fields of human occupation (or activities as part of these fields) were important in terms of self-sufficiency of elderly persons and which activities involved performance problems for these people. The assessment included the functioning of the said older adults with respect to the activities of daily living (ADL and IADL). The study revealed the existence of a range of activities whose performance was, irrespective of such circumstances as illness, unadopted living environment etc., found more difficult due to the physiological processes of ageing and which involved a potential risk of falls. The results point to a target towards which the occupational therapy program should be directed in the case of elderly people living at home. The study also confirms the fact that the inability to perform certain activities is not the same with all older adults, which means that a "client- centered model" must be aplied.
