Abstrakt | A general practitioner is only rarely involved in forensic activities. This mainly occurs outside his/her working hours and his/her surgery. Most often a general practitioner deals with victims of road accidents during his/her duty in an emergency unit: he is responsible for emergency care at the scene of the accident and accompanies the victim of a road accident to the hospital. In addition to these tasks, he needs to deal with the legal aspects of an injury caused by a road accident: he takes samples of body fluids from the persons involved in road accidents for testing, performs coroners tasks, takes samples of body fluids from dead bodies, and keeps a record of the event. If appointed by the state attorney, he/she participates in the investigation of the accident. A general practitioner's first priority is to provide medical care, only then can he deal with legal duties. If we wish to improve legal aspects of general practitioners' work, protocols for managing injuries caused by a road accident should be developed which would also include a legal aspect of general practitioner's work. Continuing medical education of general practitioners in legal points is required in order to ensure that all aspects be covered adequately. | |
