Abstrakt     The most important mechanical complications of acute myocardial infarction include free wall and interventricular septal rupture as well as acute mitral regurgitation. In most cases, mechanical complications result in death of the patients. Prompt diagnosis and surgical treatment ofmechanical complications can only save a small proportion ofpatients. Prevention, including early reperfusion treatment, and adjuvant treatment, that reduces the strain in the left ventricular wall, can probably prevent more deaths from mechanical complications then treatment.
