Abstract		Some trends regarding synthesis of drug substances such as growth of generic segment, tightening of quality standards and patent protection, introduction of advanced techniques, globalisation of production, and specialisation, are presented. Consequences of them along with the response of generic industry are illustrated by the examples from the Lek's practice.
