Abstract		The following presentation focuses on a laboratory scale degradation of nitrogen compounds which can be used to treat pharmaceutical waste water with a mixed bacterial culture. A model system was constructed to examine native microbial cultures, the influence of the waste water composition and the activity of selected mixed cultures of nitrifying and denitrifying bacteria to degrade carbon and nitrogen compounds.
