Abstrakt     We report the use of elastic stable intramedullary nailing in 145 fractures of femur in children between years 1990 and 1996. Flexible rods are inserted trough the distal metapyseal area. Aim is to develop bridging callus and to avoid prolonged bed rest. Children were invited for follow-up at least 24 months after injury. In two cases we had opened fractures. Complications were minimal, mostly pain at changing weather. Comparing with conservative and conventional methods we had shorter hospitalization time.
