Abstrakt		Article presents definitions and explanations of food supplements, food additives, functional and fortified food. Some historic data and cases of suspicious and misleading advertising of substances, contained in nutraceuticals are added. Further, cases of misuse and attempt to legally control nutraceuticals in the United States of America are described. Chapters, devoted to nutritional supplements from the United States Pharmacopeia, are summarized and analytical control of this products is described on the case of Calcium with Vitamin D Tablets.
