Abstract		The etiology of acute abdominal pain is diverse. An effective history includes a detailed description of the pain and its onset. The site of the pain will help diagnosis. In the evaluation of abdominal pain, a complete and thorough physical examination must be performed. Treatment of pain must wait until a preliminary diagnosis has been made.
