Abstract     Shock is a life-threatening state. Early recognition of signs of shock and prompt treatment is essential. Prehospital unit of emergency medicine Kranj assessed 78 patients with signs of shock in period from 01.01.2000 to 30.04.2002. Most common types of shock were cardiogenic (31%) and hypovolemic (29%). Patients showed various expression of clinical signs of shock. Only 32 patients had systolic blood pressure under 90 mm Hg and heart rate over 100 per minute. 95% patients were treated with intravenous fluids, 82% with oxygene and 67% received medication. Early and adequate assessment of patients with shock in the field can prevent, stop or reverse progression of the shock.
