Abstract		Tetanus is acute disease and a very large proportion of those affected die. It is characterized by persistent tonic spasm, with brief exacerbations. Tetanus is easily prevented by vaccination. Complications, especially hospital infections are frequent due to prolonged treatment in intensive care unit. The authonomic nervous sistem is affected as well and its function contributs to high mortality of ventilated patients. Important role of nurse is to observe the patient carefuly because imediate treatment is required in case of muscular spasm and authonomic nerve dysfunction.
