Abstract | The effect of cell organisation on bulk conductivity was studied: Cells were modelled as non-conductive spheres, since low membrane conductivity results in negligibly small contribution to electric current in DC case. In the first part of our study cells were organised into simple-cubic (sc), body-centred cubic (bcc) and face-centred cubic (fcc) lattice. These results were compared to different analytical expressions for effective conductivity of dispersed systems and show good agreement for whole range of volume fractions. Furthermore, cells arranged into infinite layers and clusters were rnodelled. Results indicate that a cluster of cells can be replaced by an equivalent sphere having conductivity as predicted by Maxwell's theory. | |
