Abstract     Self-care is a form of a treatment which involves the patient in his own care. It is very important for many forms of chronic diseases, because it makes possible to have the disease under control and it also improves life quality of the patients. The application of cryotherapy, thermotherapy, massage and exercise programs is helpful in many rheumatoid diseases. A daily exercise programme and protection of the spine through daily and professional activity can prevent pain attacks. Education how to prevent contractures and joint deformations is essential for the patients with rheumatoid arthritis. Regular exercises help patients with ankylosing spondylitis control their disease and the consequences of the disease. The success of the treatment depends on good and timely education of the patient.
