Abstrakt | Two recently introduced techniques in molecular biology, DNA microarrays and BIACore biosensors, are presented DNA microarrays can be used to quantify mRNA levels in tissue and in that way measure activity of the genes. Up to now, it has been possible to follow the gene regulation and different processes on the level of only one or a few genes at a time. Analysis of gene expression by DNA microarrays allows us to follow more than a thousand genes at a time, making itpossible to produce a more comprehensive view of physiological processes. On the other hand, the ttchnology of BIACore biosensors is a tool for studying molecular interactions. Diverse types of molecule can be used in the assay, the only limit being molecular size. It is most frequently used to study the kinetics and affinity of protein protein or protein-DNA interactions. | |
