Abstract     The role of alcohol, licit and illicit drugs in fatal traffic accidents were investigated in a multicenter, prospective study in five European countries during the period 01.01.-31.12.2001. The alcoholic intoxication remained risk factor in all of the countries, the rate of intoxication was 43,1% at the pedestians, 40,1% at the drivers, 38,1% at the motobike and 32,1% at the bike drivers. The licit drug use is sporadical, illicit drug use was found to be relative common only in Slovenia
