Abstract | The main aims of the study were to evaluate the quality and quantity of health needs and disability of hospitalized elderly people with functional scores (Barthel (BI) and Nottingham Index (NI), and to evaluate risk factors for fall (Fast Evaluation of Mobility, Fear and Balance (FEMFB)). There were in total 180 elderly persons (135 (75%) women and 45 (25%) men). The mean age was 76.2±5years. Half of the patients (93 or 51.7%) were hospitalized due to hip fracture. The mean hospital stay was 19.19±16.75 days (2-100days). VAS (Visual Analogue Scale) evaluation of pain at admission was 6.97±2.27cm (3.0-10.0cm) and at discharge 4.31±2.62cm (0.0-10.0cm). The diminution of pain was statistically significant at p<0.0001. 81 at admission was 16.9±4.9, and statistically significantly lower at discharge. NI at admission was 47.98±15.85 (8-66). Correlations between age and functional evaluations were statistically significant. Women were statistically significantly more disabled, they had more pain and stayed in hospital for longer time (p<0, 05). Surgical patients had statistically significantly more risk factors for fall as nonsurgical patients (FEMFB 13,6:7,98, p<0,05), but they were still more independent in daily activities at discharge (8115,65:13,06, p<0,05). Active attitude in rehabilitation of old people is necessary. It includes the use of functional evaluation questionnaires and the determination of risk factors for fall. | |
