Abstrakt | Malleolar fractures are the most common injuries in elderly in the joint region. Women, particularly over 60 years of age, are most commonly affected. In most cases isolated external malleolar fractures can be found. Decission about the type of treatment is based on fracture type, displacement of fragments, position of talus, soft-tissue condition and associated injuries. An analysis of ankle fractures treatment in General and Teaching Hospital Maribor in the years 2000 to 2002 was made. There were 764 patients with ankle fractures. 450 (59%) of them were treated operatively and 314 (41 %) conservatively. Among them there were no complications with good functional end results in 284 (90%) cases. Conservative treatment is effective in patients with good adaptation (no dislocation) of fragments and with good talus alignment if this position can be retained. | |
