Abstrakt     Septic complication has a typical course: necrosis of the skin, bareness of the implants, communication with the joint, osteitis and septic arthritis. Treatment is the same like at all septic complications in bone and joint surgery: removal of necrotic soft tissue, stable fixation, drainage of the infected area, local and systemic antibiotics and covering of the defect. At the septic arthritis artrhroscopic irrigation should be performed repeatedly. At this procedure joint has to be distended and fixated by external fixator. Depending on the severity of fibrinous deposits arthroscopic synovectomy may be indicated. Severe osteoarthritis is frequently the result of this complication. In such case arthrodesis should be performed.
