Abstrakt     Backaround: Fracture of talus is rare injury and represents less than 3% of all foot fractures. Incorrect treatment has high percentage morbidity and invalidity. Incidence of talus fractures with the need surgical treatment and a prognostic factors for osteoarthrosis have been of special interest. Method: We have retrospectively analyzed all operatively treated patients in Departement of Traumatology, General Hospital Maribor in the years from 1993 to 2003. All fractures have been classified according to Hawkins and Marti Weber. Average follow-up was 2.7 years (1 - 9 years). For functional evaluation Havkins scale and AOFAS scoring system have been used. Results: We operated on 21 patients in the years from 1993 to 2003 in the Departement of Traumatology, General Hospital Maribor. They account less than 0.24% of all the fractures treated in our hospital. There were 4 women and 17 male and the average age was 33 years. The mechanism of injury was fall from height and traffic accidents. 12 patients have a multiple injury and 2 were polytrumatized. 2 open fractures of talus were treated. Most fractures have been localized in the area of the neck of talus. 6 patients (28.5) developed talocrural and talocalcanear osteoarthrosis. We have found that most important prognostic factors are type of fractures, additional fractures in the foot and distal cruris, status of soft tissue, mistakes in medical treatment and the age of patients. Conclusions: Fracture of talus is rare injury but has to be treated carefully to avoid high morbidity.
