Abstrakt     Background: Operative treatment of displaced intraarticular fractures has become a standardized method of treatment. The aim of our investigation is to present the way and the results of treatment of this fractures in the years 1996 to 2000 in our department. Patients and methods: It is a retrospective study of 70 operative treated calcaneal fractures. We have evaluated the way of diagnostic procedures, the way of operative treatment and postoperative results. Results: In all 70 fractures we have performed an axial and laterolateral X ray, 33 Broden views and only 4 CT scans. In 13 examples we have achived a good postoperative joint reduction, in 32 examples an approximate joint reduction with 3mm-5mm articular incongruity between fragments and a failure with 5mm or more articular incongruity in 16 fractures. No wounde complications were seen in 29 examples, 23 were treated with antibiotics because of superficial infection and compromised flapp, in 9 examples there was secondary wound healing. 16 patients were satisfied with the end result of treatment, 11 found that the result is fair and 3 valued the result as bad. Conclusions: Significant progress has been made in the management of calcaneal fractures. We need an acurate diagnosis, adecquate roentgenographic projections. Only an anatomic reconstruction of the articular fractures can give a good result. The soft tissues are of major importance.
