Abstract     Maternal death and infant mortality rates are the most important indicators of the level of health in countries with a low level of health protection. In the document Health 21, the WHO/EURO calls for international solidarity in support of the reduction of huge differences in the level of existing health services. WHO Collaborating Centre for Primary Health Care Nursing in Maribor has therefore, as its present mandate, accepted the task of assisting in the reestablishment or development of family/community nursing services in the countries of Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union, with the main aim of reducing child morbidity and mortality.
