Abstract     Sensorial properties of materials, especially touch or visual properties, have recently gained importance in the industry. After a review of the different devices which can be used for acquiring 3D images of the microrelief, a review of the main tools used for rough surface characterization is presented. Two adaptations of existing Mathematical Morphology tools: the opening-closing granulometry and the variogram enable us to have an immediate and reliable classification of the different images. Images acquired for a series of textured paints obtained by incorporating Orgasol, and leading to different tactile and/or visual properties were characterized using these tools.
