Abstrakt     The effect of arc sprayed (AS) and high velocity arc sprayed (HVAS) A1 and A1SiRE coatings on the tensile properties of type 316 austenitic stainless steel strained at elevated temperatures in air has been studied. The relationship between surface morphology of coatings and mechanical properties of the coated samples was described. It has been found that both AS and HVAS coated specimens exhibit higher values of flow stress compared to the specimen without coating. The values of flow stress of AS coated specimens are slightly improved with respect to that of uncoated specimens while for HVAS coated specimens, the increase is dramatic. The values of workhardening coefficients, A, of the 316 specimens can be ranked in the following way: un-coated > AS A1 > AS A1SiRE > HVAS A1 > HVAS AISiRE. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images suggest an interaction between coating and substrate during tensile test. Measurements of roughness of coatings before and after straining show that the roughness values for coatings after straining are significantly lower than that before straining. It has been found that changes in roughness of coatings before and after straining are correlated with changes in the mechanical properties of specimens. The experimental results indicate that the changes of roughness parameters for the coated specimens have the same sequence with the one of work-hardening coefficient.
