Abstract     This research compares two groups of male patients who have undergone total laringectomy: one group used esophageal speech (N=2), while the othergroup used voice prostheses (N=2). The aim of this research was to compare voice and pronunciation quality in these two groups of patients. The patients were recorded in a soundproof booth on a minidisc. The test consisted of the reading of a short story (The North Wind and the SunJ, phonation of the vowel /i/, /a/, /u/, sustained production of /s/ and /z/ and reading meaningless words. Pronunciation and voice variables were analyzed by means of acoustic analysis software. The results have confirmed the hypothesis that both of the methods have certain advantages, thus, the communication rehabilitation should include the best of both of them.
