Abstract		People's health and their motivation are greatly affected by numerous health disturbances. The lack of will power (volition) and motivation are often typical symptoms of mental diseases such as schizophrenia, depression, dementia etc. Presented in this paper is the importance of patient's motivation for čooperation in occupational therapy treatment in order to restore balance in all spheres of his life. It deals with some important impacts on patient's motivation, with procedures to increase his motivation, and gives an example of including patient into such activities that lie at the basis of the occupational therapy treatment.
