Abstract | Complete compromise of the airway leads rapidly to hypoxia, irreversible brain damage and death. As a result, management of the compromised airway has the highest treatment priority regardless of the presence of other injuries or medical problems. Effective and decisive management of the airway can quite literally make the difference between life and death or between ability and disability. The emergency physician must be proficient with rapid sequence intubation, which requires a thorough knowledge of the pharmacology and effects of neuromuscular blocking agents, sedative or induction agents and other medications used to improve outcome or mitigate adverse effects. The aim of this contribution is representation of use of anaesthetic drugs and rapid sequence intubation (crash intubation and failed intubation). | |
