Abstrakt		In principle all doctors agree on the concept that health and illness depend on a complex of interwoven biological, psyhological and social factors. In practice however most of us are unable to deal competently with a person complaining of various health problems; we fail to regard him/her as a psychosomatic unity, the main reason for this inadequate acting being the patient's and our own unconscious, partly repressed mental issues. A short history of a female patient suffering from a number of physical complaints is included to illustrate the problem wich so frequently confronts the physician.
