Abstrakt     Cardiovascular diseases are on the ninth place according to temporary disability because of illness, injury, nursing and other reasons. Undetermined essential hypertension has the highest frequency of temporary disability and acute miocardial infarct has the most serious course. Indices of temporary disability depend on sex, age and industry categories. In five years period 288 patients, aged 22 to 78 years have participated in out-patient rehabilitation program wich consisted of one hour sessions three times weekly, lasted 8 to 13 weeks and began 4 to 10 (median 6,59) weeks after myocardial infarction. 132 patients (76,4 per cent ) out of 173 patients employed before infarction, returned to work after the average period of 17,5 weeks. Out of the remaining 41 patients, 2 patients died while the remaining 39 (23, per cent ) retired after mean period of unemployment 34,4 weeks. The frequency of return to work and the period of unemployment were shorter in white collar workers compared to blue collar workers.
