Abstrakt     Clinical guidelines are defined as systematically developed statements to assist practitioner and patient decisions about appropriate health care for specific clinical circumstances. The main aim of guidelines is to support and promote good clinical practice to achieve optimal quality of health care. Guidelines objective is critically to appraise scientific evidence and practical experiences on treatment of specific health care problems, by taking into account both benefits and costs. The Slovene Guidelines Manual, developed during 2002-2003 as part of the Slovene Health Sector Management Project is intended as a handbook for groups developing and implementing clinical practice guidelines for the health service in Slovenia. It provides details of the methodology for systematic development, adaptation, implementation, and monitoring of evidence-based medicine clinical practice guidelines. It contains 8 chapters: (1) introduction, (2) the multidisciplinary guideline group, (3) appraising the evidence, (4) forming recommendations, (5) consultation and peer review, (6) presentation and dissemination, (7) implementation, (8) monitoring, evaluation and review. As an 'aide memoire' to the standard which guideline groups should aim to meet, the relevant appraisal criteria from the international AGREE instrument are included at the start of each section. The AGREE instrument represents an ideal, or 'gold standard' for guidelines. Guideline groups should record against each item how they have met that criterion, or the reasons why this has not been possible. It is important to note, however, that although publication, implementation, and evaluation obviously take place after the development of the guideline, issues concerning the presentation and dissemination of the guideli ne, potential facilitators and barriers to implementation, and the key clinical indicators for monitoring of health care quality should be considered throughout the development process.
