Abstrakt     Background. Choledocholithiasis is present in 10-15 per cent of patients who have cholelithiasis. In the era of laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC), endoscopic re trograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) with endoscopic retrograde sphincterotomy (EST) and laparoscopic common bile duct exploration (L-CBD-E) have been used to treate patients with choledocholithiasis. Aim. The purpose of this study is to evaluate two stage (ERCP/EST+ LC) and one stage treatment (L-CBD-E/LC) of patients harbouring gallbladder and bile duct stones regarding succes rate of L-CBD-E, rate of complications, lenght of hospital stay and recovery. Patients and methods. According to the published data two stage and one stage treatment were compared, as well as our experience of one stage treatment is presented. Results. Success rate of one stage procedure (L-CBD-E/LC) was 94%, range between 75-100%. One stage treatment results in significantly fewer complications, shorter hospital stay and shorter recovery period. In our series, the success rate of L-CBD-E was 78%, complications rate was nil , and lenght of hospital stay and recovery period were comparable with published data. Conclusions. Advantages of one stage laparoscopic treatment of patients harbouring gallbladder and bile duct stones include short hospital stay, short recovery period and preservation of Sphincter of Oddi.
