Abstrakt     The work of a Bsc in sanitary engineering is closely connected with the existent problems and circumstances regarding epidemiology, health and ecology, and hygiene. Therefore, the role of a sanitary engineer is determined from the following points of view: protection of inhabitants against harmful influence of the environment, protection of the environment against harmful human influence, and improving the quality of the environment to ensure the inhabitants' health and welfare. Thus, a sanitary engineer has a wide technical and technological knowledge, yet he or she is at the same time a health officer, with a health-oriented way of thinking. The DDD course has, since the foundation of this study in Ljubljana, been included in the study programme. In 1985, contents of DDD were added to the epidemiology course (180 hrs), where students learn to perform desinfection, desinsection, and deratisation. There are 20 hrs of lectures and 15 hrs of practical work from the DDD field. The practical work is of aplicative nature and is carried out partly in the study room at the faculty and partly at the DDD ZZV Ljubljana. Basic contents: DDD basis, DDD instruments, labelling of dangerous substances. protective gear, toxicology basis and measures in case of poisoning, safety certificates, DDD in the HACCP system, planning and execution of DDD, and ascertaining of DDD effects and efficiency. It is clear that a Bsc in sanitary engineering is capable of carrying out work in the area of desinfection, deratisation, and decontamination, independently or as part of a team.
