Abstrakt | In Slovenia there are 51 legal landfill sites. By waste management regulation 21 of them will stop operating in 2004 and another 13 in 2009. The long-term impact of these landfills that is noticable even after 50 to 100 years after the closure and affects surface and underground waters must not be overlooked. In recent years constructed wetlands are becoming more and more popular method of landfill leachate treatment, which can be made even more effective if the purified water from the constructed wetland is used to irrigate a densely wooded area. Constructed wetlands have proved themselves to be very effective in eliminating suspended and settleable solids, NH3-N, P043", Fe in B. Furthermore, the values for COD and BODS measured in the outflow were lower than the ones measured in the inflow which also confirms the hypothesis stating that constructed wetlands are effective in landfill leachate treatment. | |
