Abstrakt		Slovenia is embarking on an ambitious health sector reform program, which covers methods of health financing, resource allocation, and care provision. In this paper, we focus on the application of DRGs to the funding of acute inpatient care. However, we also refer briefly to the complete classification model that has 14 major components, and to the main focus of payment reform - the encouragement of clinical practice improvement. We conclude that progress has been highly satisfactory thus far. This has mainly been a consequence of involving many parties in the design of a long-term strategy, and giving particular responsibilities to practising clinicians.
