Abstrakt     Rats are the carrier of pathologies contaminating directly and indirectly food and environment with urine and faeces. On the farms, they can also attack small animals like piglets, causing a high mortality in the swine breeding. Inspections in animals' buildings must contemplate every trace of a possible rat infestation (faeces and urine traces), sounds, greasy signals, tracks, odour and excitement in dogs leaving in the farm. The evaluation of species and consistency of rat population can be derived disposing a certain number of traps (non-toxic baits) in the monitoring area. An efficient de-ratting program must use that combination of instruments and procedures known as IPM or Integrated Pest Management, where the adopted strategies must be aimed at the specific operative realities and the most efficient and lasting technique in rodent control is the environment healing, that lowers feeds availability and vital space for nests and shelters and decrease the so called specific biological capacity or C.B.S. The correct application of these procedures (structural and de-ratting) can lead to a consistent lowering of rat population (85-90%) in the farm.
