Abstrakt		This paper describes an inexpensive medium and a simple test for detection of faecal pollution of water and surfaces in stables and veterinary clinics, based on the detection of hydrogen sulphide producing bacteria. The method provides comparable results with standard methods of water analysis and with the microbiological methods of assessing the efficacy of disinfections. The test is simple to perform, and useful as a screening method in rural areas. It can alšo be used in the monitoring of water's quality in city resorts like swimmining pools. The method is patented as an invention and is officially recommended in Romania for application in human and veterinary medicine for periodic examinations of water and for assessing the efficacy of prophylactic disinfections.
