Abstrakt		The effect of a drug often gradually diminishes when it is given continuously. The decreased effect may be due to changes in the pharmacodynamic properties of the drug and/or pharmacokinetic changes occuring in the body. This paper summarizes the known mechanisms responsible for the diminished analgesic effect due to chronic opioid treatment.
