Abstrakt     With the January 2003 the Slovenian hospitals started collecting the input data to the DRG grouper, using the AR_DRG 4.2 system logic. A new type of the hospital care has been defined - the acute hospital care. Some additional pieces of data have been added to the list of those already gathered and the frequency of reporting has been changed from yearly to quarterly. A web-based application e-SPP has been developed to support the data collection, reporting and analysing at the national level. A rather demanding IT support is needed at the health care providers side as well as at the national level. The improvements have been noticed in the better quality medical documentation containing carefully coded diagnoses and clinical procedure, which will in turn have positive influence on the DRG grouping and eventually resulting in reimbursement changes. Nevertheless, the data in larger quantity and quality gives us a possibility to do the peer groups' comparisons and trends analysis. In most cases one can notice a significant increase in number of the reported diagnosis per case. Hospitals are getting aware of the importance and usages of the data reported and are shifting the responsibility for coding from the administrative staff to the doctors. The newly introduced DRG system gives strong incentives to the hospitals for the changes in their managing, attitude and performing the health care overall.
