Abstrakt | Historical view on the allergy is given in the introduction. Atopy and allergy are defined next. Four basic types of allergic reaction and scheme of normal immune response is presented. Lymphocyte T helper is the key cell of immune response. Immune response of person with atopy is different from immune response of non atopic individual. The most important difference makes the subset of T helper cell. Cytokines of Th2 subset in atopic person promotes eosinophil and mast cell development and production of immunoglobulines IgE. Th2 cytokines predominate even in non atopic person in first months/years of life. Genetic and environmental influences governs direction in Th1 or Th2 subset thereafter. Early contact with some environmental antigens leads to sensibilisation. Development of tolerance which takes before birth may be even more important. In the first year of life sensibilisation on milk and egg proteins is most common, sensibilisation on inhalant allergens occur later. GIT and skin are the first targets of allergy, followed by lower anthen upper respiratory tract. | |
