Abstrakt		Beside their classic bone fragments fixation function, external fixator has been used in orthopaedics to apply distraction force after osteotomy of bone. Based on a biologic phenomenon of distraction osteogenesis, this technique can be utilized to induce the formation of new bone in longitudinal columns along the plane of distraction. In this way, patients with limblength inequality, angular deformities, segmental bone loss and nonunions can be treated.
