Abstrakt     Backgrounds and methods. Aliquots of 112 seminal free sperm samples were kept at room temperature (22 degrees C) and at 37 degrees C in a C02 incubator. Results. In 94 cases (83.9 per cent ), the samples kept for 24 hours at 22 degrees C had a significantly higher motility (81.6+-22.3 per cent ) than those kept in the incubator (58.0+-35.6 per cent ) (p less th. 0.001) even though the pH value increased. The test was repeated with 21 purified sperm samples obtained from ejaculates of men with oligo- and/or asthenozoospermia, and with 32 samples from the ejaculates of men with normozoospermia at constant pH. As soon as 24 hours later, the morility of sperm at 22y C was higher if compared to those kept at 37 degrees C. After 72 hours, the average morility of the sperm samples from poor ejaculates was 60.4+-25.3 per cent at 22 degrees C and 4.7+-11.9 per cent at 37 degrees C. The sperm samples of normozoospermic men had 7l.8+-29.3 per cent of motile sperm at 22 degrees C and 16.3+-27.3 per cent of motile sperm cells at 37 degrees C. After the terminatdion of sperm incubation at 37 degrees C, only 12.5 per cent of samples from normozoospermic and 4.8 per cent of samples from oligoasthenozoospermic men contained more than 50 per cent motile sperm cells, while in sperm kept at 22 degrees C as many as 87.4 per cent of samples from good and 71.4 per cent of samples from poor ejaculates were fit for use. Conclusions. Purifed sperm, stored at 22 degrees C, keep a good motility for 3 days after ejaculation.
