Abstrakt     Organic solvents are among the most widely and commonly used substances in industry. A great number of workers at various work posts are exposed to them. Their health is jeopardised due to the fact, that the said solvents cause acute, chronic and delayed effects. In the enterprise Helios, factory of varnishes, colours and resins Količevo d.o.o., the workers in the production of pigment coats are daily exposed to a mixture of organic solvents, including toluen, xylen and, occasionally, styrene. While conducting preventive medical examinations of workers, who have been exposed to organic solvents, I have found, that a great number of them mention various acute and chronic symptoms originating from their work. The lack of epidemiological data on ill health of workers, exposed to organic solvents in the course of their work, has made me perform the examination of a selected group of workers, whereupon I have compared the findings to a control group of workers, who have not been exposed to organic solvents regarding health damage and illnesses. With regard to the monitored group of workers an assessment analysis of work posts, as well as an ecological and biological monitoring have been performed. In the beginning of a working week urine samples have been taken from all workers of the monitored group of a morning shift for analysis of urine metabolites of organic resins (assessment of chronic aggravation of organism). During the course of working week (Wednesday) not only a biological monitoring, but also an ecological one has been done. Blood samples and urine samples have been taken from all workers of the monitored group in order to analyse the organic resins in the blood as well as organic solvents metabolites in urine before and after work, that was about to be performed.
