Abstrakt     The second - graded driving commission in Ljubljana has been functioning with Institute of Industrial, Traffic and Sports medicine since 1976. The constant members of this commission are the doctor specialist of industrial, traffic and sports medicine, neuropsychiatrist, ophthalmologist and psychologist. From 1976 until the end of 1995, 1767 candidates for drivers of all categories were examined. The number of examinations has been rising and in 1995 there were more than 200 candidates. Among the checked candidates 91,2% were men and only 8,8% were women. 63,6% candidates were amateur drivers and 33,4% were professional drivers. The average age for men was 41,3 and for women 38,8 years old. The neuropsychological diagnosis are increasing. Among those who has been examined are 28,2% estimated because of alcohol, 22,9% because of epilepsy, 19,3% estimated at psychologist and 16,5% because of psychiatric illnesses. The spheres of neuropsychiatry (especially of experts for alcohol and epilepsy) and of ophthalmology present the most important part of the estimation. 10% drivers were estimated as capable of driving without restriction, 80% with restriction (of time, category...) and 10% as incapable of driving motor vehicles. With this assignment we wanted to point out the most numerous diagnostic problems which appear when we are estimating driving capacities. For that reason we establish that prevision and discharge of those who are incapable to take an active part in traffic because of their health condition will assure the biggest safety in road traffic in our country.
