Abstrakt		At present liver transplantation is usually indicated for the underlying liver disease but not for the variceal bleeding per se. This is because not all patients with variceal bleeding have end-stage liver disease and hemostatic therapies other than transplantation are very effective in the management of hemorrhage. Therefore, the control of variceal hemorrhage should be reached by currently available therapies before considering liver transplantation. None of the therapies adressed to the treatment or prophylaxis of variceal hemorrhage appears to significantly interfere with subsequent liver transplantation.
Izvleček		Za presaditev jeter se odločimo zaradi napredovale jetrne bolezni in ne zgolj zaradi krvavitve iz varic. Ker iz varic ne krvavijo le bolniki z napredovalo jetrno cirozo in ker imamo več zelo uspešnih metod zdravljenja in preprečevanja krvavitev iz varic, imajo le-te prednost pred morebitno presaditvijo jeter. Nobeden od trenutno uporabljanih načinov zdravljenja in preprečevanja krvavitev iz varic ne ovira kasnejše presaditve jeter.
