Abstrakt		In experienced hands, transabdominal sonography can be used as primary imaging in several gastrointestinal diseases. The potentials and limitations of sonography in the evaluation of the gastrointestinal tract are emphasized. The sonographic morphology of normal parts of the gastrointestinal tract and of the most common gastrointestinaf diseases are discussed. The gastrointestinal tract should be included in the sonographic examination of the abdomen, particularly when symptoms could be related to the digestive tract.
