Abstrakt     Guidelines. Because of their high incidence rate, high mortality rate and serious disabilities, cerebrovascular diseases represent a serious health care and social welfare issue. In 2001 In Slovenia the incidence rate was 235 per 100,000 people, where 14, 55% of population was over 65 years (2002). According to international recommendations, institutional care should be provided to 5% of the population over 65 years. Slovene Programme for the Development of Care for the Senior Citizens aims at 4,5 % by the year 2005. Methods. The article deals with rehabilitation of patients with cerebrovascular diseases in Izlake Nursing Home in 2002. Rehabilitation of senior and rehabilitation of younger patients are dealt with separately. Conclusion. Institutional care is increasingly becoming the only solution for senior patients with cerebrovascular disease. Rehab potential and rehabilitation success rate with younger patients are high, and, in majority of cases, they return to their homes. Patients over 80 years have low rehab potential and nursing home care is often required after the conclusion of the programme. Statistic data and everyday experience show lack of vacancies in nursing homes, what is also expected to continue in future.
