Abstrakt     Assessment of Motor and Process Skills (AMPS) is an evaluation tool for designing client-centred, performance based and top-down occupational therapy interventions. It is an observational assessment. It evaluates motor and process skills and their impact on the ability of a patient or a client to perform basic or instrumental activities of daily living (ADL). It is used to evaluate the quality of the individual actions that are performed, one by one, as the person compiles the task performance. Skills are »goal-directed actions, practised abilities, performed by a person, doing a task in the context of an environment«. AMPS consist of 16 ADL motor skills and 20 ADL process skills. Motor skills are «goal-directed actions used to move oneself or objects during the task performance«. They are organised in the following domains: posture (stabilise, aligns, positions), mobility (walk, reaches, bends), co-ordination (co-ordinates, manipulates, flows), strength and effort (moves, organises, transports, lifts, grips), energy (endures, paces). Process skills refers to a se ries of observable actions that an individual uses to »choose and use appropriate tools and materials, organise the performance over time and adapt behaviour when problems occur«. They are grouped in the following domains: energy (paces, attends), knowledge (chooses, uses, handles, heeds, inquires), temporal organisation (initiates, continues, sequences, terminates), space and objects (searchesllocates, gathers, organises, restores, navigates) and adaptation (noticelrespond, accommodates, adjust, benefits). Skills are, according to International Classification of Functioning, measuring the level of activity and not the underlying capacities (motor or cognitive impairment). Each skill is scored as a competent (4), questionable (3), ineffective (2) or unacceptable performance (1). (Abstract truncated at 2000 characters).
