Abstrakt     Cochlear implantation represents important advance in managing profound deafness but it is still not easy to predict the final effect. During a seven year period 62 children and 14 adults underwent cochlear implantation with multi-channel devices. One child cannot use the implant because of abnormality of inner ear. All the others use it every day. The auditory performance vary between the individuals as they are not a homogenous group. The mode of communication is oral in 73.68% and total in 26.32%. The benefits of cochlear implantation can be seen also in reduced isolation and improved confidence of patients.
